Great
site! Simple and to the point, factual information. I am "snake
sitting" for my cousin's family. They have a 3-foot python and although
they said he is very tolerant of being handled, I was hesitant. Yet after
Googling and then reading your "How To Hold a Snake" page, I felt confident to try. I did
everything exactly as you said and, it worked like a charm! He loved finally
getting out of his cage and after awhile, got bored with me holding him and
actually took a nap in my arms. Thanks again, good job!!!

It depends on how you are holding it by its tail, but it's not a hard and fast rule that a snake can't bite you if held by the tail.

I love snakes. I don't own one but I hope to some day. Is it true that if a snake is held hanging by the tail it won't be able to strike at you?

Get a ball python or a corn snake. They are really good snakes for a first timer. I myself have just gotten a ball python, and she's my first snake. She's incredibly laid back and calm, and hasn't given me much of a hassle yet.
