Snakes by State
Native snakes can be found almost everywhere in the United States except Alaska and Hawaii. Because of this we at pet-snakes.com decided to put together a collection of snake related information presented in a state by state format. Listed under each state we have included the following information -
- List of known native snakes for each state:
Includes the common name for the snakes, scientific name, as well as the Federal and State conservation status. Venomous snakes are clearly marked with (V). - List of each state’s herpetological societies:
These clubs are great sources of information as well as a fantastic place to network with other snake keepers. You will often heard them referred to as herp clubs - List of each state’s laws the affect snake ownership:
We have put together the relevant laws for each individual state affecting what snakes can be owned, fees and fines, laws regulating the capture of native species of snakes. - List of veterinarians of who work on snakes:
Since not all vets can work on snakes we decided it was a good idea to keep a list of those who can by state.
Since snakes are a controversial topic this is a work in progress and is not 100% complete. If you find an inaccuracy in any of the information, or if you’d like to add more information to something please feel free to contact us using the email address presented on each page. We ask this so that the email is properly labeled so we know what section needs to be worked on..
