Appearance
Adult Black Pine Snakes are said to be the only melanistic pine snake, but they are often known to have a brownish hue. While some adults are a striking jet black in color that is not always their appearance. Some have even been found with a few white scales and traces of a pattern mostly near the tail. They grow up to 74 inches, have a stout body with the head only slightly larger than the neck.

Range
Black pines have seen their natural range greatly reduced and are protected species in both Alabama and Mississippi and are candidate for protection from the US government. Naturally their range is from southwestern Alabama through southeastern Mississippi into extreme eastern Louisiana.

Feeding Habits
They can be kept healthy and well fed on a diet of appropriately sized mice and rats in captivity.
